Welcoming our new Assistant Site manager

From security guard to Assistant Site Manager. Read Judy’s inspiring journey into house building

Stonebridge Homes is proud to spotlight the inspiring journey of one of its newest assistant site managers. Judy Savill, who is a determined woman, is carving her path in the traditionally male-dominated construction industry.

Starting her career as a security guard on a building site, Judy quickly became fascinated by the process of house-building. Her curiosity and enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed and she was mentored by a site manager for six months, sparking a new career ambition.

Balancing work and raising two young children, she self-funded her qualifications, earning her Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS), CSCS card, and First Aid certification. Her qualifications led her to agency work, where she gained valuable experience before joining Stonebridge Homes.

“I applied for a full-time role at Stonebridge because of the company’s great reputation, friendly culture, and the stability it offers,” she said. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see a house come to life from the ground up.”

Judy fully acknowledges the challenges of working in a male-dominated field but emphasises the camaraderie and teamwork on site. “It’s mostly down-to-earth, friendly people who all work together. There’s so much scope for a great career in this industry, and women often bring a fresh perspective. Every day is different. Today I’ve given a toolbox talk about suncream and staying hydrated, and tomorrow I’m walking site with our contracts manager to check that everything is progressing as it should.”

She encourages other women to consider construction as a career: “If you’re good at problem-solving, enjoy working outdoors in all weathers, and want a fulfilling job where you can see the results of your hard work, this is the place to be.”

Stewart Loben, Construction Director at Stonebridge said “Judy has shown a real passion for the job and she’s a confident and capable assistant site manager. She’s proof that with determination and the right support, it’s a great career focused industry to work in. I know that Judy has her sights set on working her way up through the ranks and I’m sure she will achieve those aspirations.”

Stonebridge Homes celebrates Judy’s journey as a testament to resilience, passion, and the power of mentorship in shaping the future of construction.
