Welcome to Adele, our new Assistant Site Manager

From sales to site: a mum of three builds a career in construction with Stonebridge Homes

Adele, from Barnsley, has defied the odds and is carving out a successful career in construction, becoming an Assistant Site Manager at Stonebridge Homes after years of determination and resilience.

Starting her journey in new homes sales, Adele quickly discovered an interest for the operational side of housebuilding. After moving into customer care, she found herself increasingly drawn to life on site, and knew that’s where she wanted to be.

Despite having had some training with a national housebuilder, she spent three years applying for site roles without a single interview. That changed when she came to Stonebridge Homes.

“From the moment Adele walked into the interview, we knew she was something special,” said Steve Usher, one of Stonebridge Homes’ Contracts Managers. “She had a clear passion for the job, a fantastic work ethic, and a real understanding of what makes a great home. She’s a brilliant addition to the team.”

Construction runs in the family. Adele’s husband is a Senior Site Manager, her eldest son is a newly qualified joiner, and her middle son is learning groundworks. She also has a young daughter and is passionate about showing her that anything is possible.

“I want to open doors for the next generation,” she said. “My boys are already learning the trades, and I’d love to see more young people – and girls in particular – realise that this industry has so much to offer. It’s not just hard hats and muddy boots. It’s about building communities and futures, solving problems, and creating something lasting. If I can do it, so can they.”

She’s a passionate advocate for apprenticeships and diversity in construction, where women still make up just 4% of site managers. Her message is clear: with encouragement and opportunity, anyone can thrive in this industry.

Adele’s story is a powerful reminder that when talent is recognised and given the chance to grow, it can truly shine,  and that the future of construction is brighter when it’s more inclusive.
