Teddy Bears picnic, celebrating Paddington Bear's links to Doncaster

We are hosting a special Teddy Bears Picnic with local schools in Armthorpe in support of the Bear Force charity.

In celebration of National Teddy Bear’s Picnic day, and in collaboration with local schools, this joyful event will bring together selected pupils for an afternoon of fun, creativity, and community spirit, all in support of children’s well-being.

Doncaster is the perfect place to hold this event, with links to Paddington Bear as Doncaster-based company, Gabrielle Designs first manufactured Paddington Bear toys in the early 1970s, with Shirley Clarkson, the owner of the company, creating the first toy for her children (one of whom is Jeremy Clarkson, the Top Gear presenter and Clarkson’s Farm fame).

Around 14 children aged 5–9 will attend from local schools including Tranmoor, Shaw Wood Academy and Our Lady of Sorrows. The event is designed to offer a safe, engaging, and memorable experience, while also raising awareness for Bear Force, a charity dedicated to supporting the emotional well-being of children and families.

“We’re proud to be working with local schools and Bear Force to create a magical day for children in our community,” said Chris Kelly, Sales Director at Stonebridge Homes. “This event is all about celebrating childhood, encouraging creativity, and supporting a cause that truly matters.”

Andrew Mynett, Headteacher at Tranmoor Primary School, shared their schools excitement: “Opportunities like this are incredibly valuable for our pupils. Beyond the fun and excitement, events like the Teddy Bear’s Picnic help children develop social skills, build confidence, and engage in learning through play. It’s a fantastic way to support their emotional development outside the classroom, and we’re proud to be part of it.”
