Christmas Decorations That Won’t Break The Bank

09 Nov 2023 | Blogs

Christmas is undoubtably one of our favourite times of the year at Stonebridge. From the twinkly lights and decorations, to Christmas music and festive films, there’s so much to enjoy at this wonderful time of the year.

We’ve pulled together some of our top tips for decorating your home to make it merry and bright, without having to break the bank.

DIY Christmas decorations

There’s nothing nicer than home-made, and all you need is some crafting materials and a little imagination. From paper snowflakes to hang up in the window, to homemade Christmas baubles, the possibilities are endless – you can even get the kids involved!

If you’re hoping to make your own wreath this year, then we’re actually holding a couple of wreath making master classes at our developments, led by the amazing Suzy from SW Design Group. These will be taking place on Sunday 12th November at Spencer Grange, Skipton, and Sunday 19th November at Forest Chase, Great Ouseburn. If you’d like to attend, please call the relevant sales office to book your place.

Buy second-hand

It’s quite common to have a box full of Christmas decorations that you re-use year-on-year, however most people can’t resist buying some new bits and bobs come Christmas time. However, instead of filling your trolley full of new decorations in your local supermarket, shop or garden centre, why not try buying second hand? Nowadays, there are so many online sites where you can buy second hand items, such as Vinted and Facebook Marketplace. Also, not forgetting the good old charity shop, where you’re helping local good causes too!

Use battery operated lights

Twinkly lights are undoubtably one of the most magical elements of Christmas, and it’s no wonder so many of us put them up all over our homes, both inside and out. However, they do cost quite a lot to run. Try to use battery operated lights where you can, as they are a great cost-effective alternative and will reduce the lighting costs this holiday season. You also don’t need to think about where the plug sockets are either when decorating, it’s a win win!

Bring the outdoors, inside

Sometimes, you don’t even need to visit a shop to find beautiful festive decorations, you just need to step outside and take a look around you. Use pine tree trimmings and berries to create your own wreaths, fill baskets or vases full of pinecones for table centrepieces, or even find a holly bush to create the perfect table runner. So, wrap up warm and head outside to let nature inspire you.
